Kevin Knight , owner and chief executive officer
of Knight Solutions, has been focused on owning his own business most
of his life. Part of his motivation came from watching his father work
at a local shipyard for 12 hours a day to support his family of 14. Knight
made a decision early in life that while owning his own business may not
prevent him from facing hard times, it would give him the best opportunity
to control the outcome.
Knight drew on his perseverance and strength to rise out of poverty
by serving in the U.S. Army and pursuing college degrees. He received
a bachelor’s degree in business from Norfolk State University
cum laude and a master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati.
Knight has worked for three major corporations, where he honed his
entrepreneurial style in various management positions. His experience
working directly for chief executive officers allowed him to learn how
to strategically lead an organization during dynamic and static times.
Knight founded Knight Solutions while working 50-hour weeks at his day
job. In a very short time, he has obtained a GSA Contract schedule and
developed a long-term mentor protégé relationship with
a major construction company. Through his persistence and dedication,
Knight was able to convince these organizations of the value of partnering
with a small disabled veteran-owned business. “I even set up a
teleconference with the Department of Defense Mentor Protégé
department,” said Knight. His efforts resulted in allowing the
partnership to be awarded a multi-million dollar site work project at
Ft. Belvoir New Campus East.
While serving his country in the U.S. Army, Knight was injured and was
told that he would no longer be able to serve. “This was a devastating
time, as I knew that coming home would place me back in the same
negative surroundings that I grew up in,” said Knight. “Instead
of returning and hanging out with negative friends, I decided to put
myself through college.” Knight was not only the first member
of his family to graduate from college; he also did so with honors.
“My parents today still see this as one of the proudest moments
of their lives,” said Knight.
Knight’s education, coupled with his military background, provides
him with in-depth management and team-building skills, allowing him
to effectively develop and manage his organization in an efficient,
cohesive manner as its chief executive officer. His 15 years as a high-level
director for Fortune 500 companies allows him to implement the systems
and processes required to keep his organization at the forefront of
cutting-edge technology.
In addition to being CEO of a successful business, Knight serves his
community on the board of directors for the following organizations:
Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Loudoun, Northern Virginia
Community Foundation and Central Loudoun Youth Football Association.
He is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
